Early Intervention and Transition Services (EIATS)
Provides early intervention and transition services to seriously
injured service members at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center,
in Washington, DC and the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda,
MD. Service members receive prompt information and resources
regarding the VA health care system, rehabilitative services, and
other VA benefits. Counseling and guidance allows the service member
to understand where they are going, how to get there, and what VA
services are available in support of their goals. Follow-on vocational
services, including an initial vocational evaluation is conducted.
Ongoing contact with medical personnel is a key element of this service.
Follow up assistance and coordination often is required to assist the
service member with activities of daily living, as well as with ongoing
hospitalizations, therapy and other treatments.
These services are provided by a professional Vocational Rehabilitation
Counselor and individually tailored to the needs of the service member.
The counselor paces the intensity of intervention to the needs of the
service member.
